2016 came along with adverse weather conditions for the winemakers in Dobrogea. Rainfalls were very abundant and persistent during the first months and lasted until the end of May, immediately followed by a period of drought that was prolonged until early October. High temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius were recorded in July and August, which added to rapid sugar accumulation. What actually prevented the premature and excessive dehydration of the grapes was the particular location of our vineyard. Close to both the Black Sea and the former bay lakes near Histria Fortress, the vines immensely benefited from the humidity of the morning sea breeze. Such special conditions contributed to the production of expressive wines, with strong aroma and balanced acidity.
The first wine type from the vintage year of 2016 is Mirachi Riesling. Produced from vines fully matured (planted in 2006), Mirachi Riesling is defined by its clear greenish hues and floral aroma with subtle hints of citrus. The taste is soft, with distinct acidity, which adds to the true character of the wine.
Best paired with Mirachi Riesling are chicken dishes, fish or seafood. At a serving temperature of 10-12 degrees Celsius, this wine is also easy to pair with cheese, pasta dishes and roasted vegetables.
